On April 1, an international meeting dedicated to new technologies in air navigation opened in Paris. This is a joint meeting of the Performance-Based Navigation Implementation Working Group (PBN TF/12) and the 39th meeting of the Eurocontrol NSG.
The forum is attended by about 150 experts from more than 50 countries. Among them are representatives of leading air navigation service providers, as well as organizations such as EUROCONTROL, EASA, URSANAV, INECO, ATC CONSALT and others. Among the participants are specialists from the State Unitary Enterprise "Uzaeronavigatsia Center", representing the interests of Uzbekistan.
The main topic of the meeting is the introduction of modern approaches to performance-based navigation (PBN), which allow aircraft to perform more accurate and safe landing approaches using performance-based navigation.
According to the speakers, 11% of runways in the EU countries can already accept aircraft according to the second category of ICAO (CAT II) using only PBN technologies - without classic systems such as ILS.
The participants also discuss the challenges faced by modern aviation: the migration of the north magnetic pole, solar interference and its impact on satellite navigation systems.
An important question is also raised: how to ensure a smooth transition to new technologies while maintaining the reliability of traditional systems. Experts agree that it is necessary to maintain a reasonable balance between the introduction of PBN and the preservation of proven precision approach systems.
